Yesterday I had the joy of taking my two little ones on a day trip to the Bay Area Discovery Museum located right at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, California. The location alone is worth the visit, the views are amazing!
Thankfully it was a clear day because the museum was laid out a bit different then I expected. It’s spread out into about five different buildings, each with a different theme. Tot Spot (for really little ones), Wave Workshop, Treasure Cove, Art Studios etc.
Spencer ran around like a wild man and absolutely LOVED it! There wasn’t quite as much for Emma to do but she still had fun.
Emma’s favorite part – sneaking bites of sand and bark when mom wasn’t looking…
Spencer creating and enjoying splashing paint everywhere!
We look forward to going back but next time we hope to get a group of cousins and friends to come along with us! By the way the first Wednesday of the month is free so if you live in the area I would recommend checking it out!

A few months ago we took Spencer to the doctor when he was coming down with a nasty cold. Our regular doctor wasn’t available so the one who ended up looking at Spencer discovered that his ears were so full of wax they needed cleaning before he could finish the check-up. This of course traumatized our poor sick little boy and he never wanted to visit the doctor again! Upon any mention of the doctor, Spencer would grab his ears and declare “ears, hurt, no doctor!”
But no more doctor visits isn’t really realistic at only three years of age, so during our next trip, this time with our regular doctor (Dr. Russell Tweet – who has been the Klein family doctor for over 20 years!), Aaron mentioned that the previous visit had left Spencer rather scared. Dr. Tweet left the room for a few minutes and then reappeared with a little bear dressed in doctor scrubs. He gave this as a gift to Spencer and then continued to show him how cool doctors really are! First he looked in my ear and then Spencer took a turn, continuing on with daddy until all the ears in the room had been fully checked.
I think this must have won Spencer over because now instead of “ears, hurt, no doctor!”, every time he gets the littlest scrape or owie he begs me to take him to the doctor! And during our latest visit for Emma’s one year check-up I could barely get a word in edgewise – Spencer talked Dr. Tweet’s ear off the entire time!
Who knows maybe Spence will grow up to become a doctor someday – for now I’m just grateful he’s no longer scared of going to the doctor. We’ll have to start working on a creative way to make the dentist appealing!

For some reason our life has slowed down a bit lately so I have been thoroughly enjoying quiet days at home with my two cute kids. Here are some pictures of the fun we have just hanging out!
A chilly morning walk…
Happy to be outside…
Making peanut butter bird feeders. Notice the peanut butter on the corner of his mouth – he was sneaking licks when mom wasn’t looking!
Being exceedingly cute…

Adopting is quite the roller coaster ride. You start off with the paperwork part, mountains and mountains of it, then you move on to the waiting part – which when you’re in it seems to go on for eternity and it’s hard to believe that it will ever come to an end. And on top of all of that you have the financial part – families somehow need to scrimp and save and come up with upwards of $20,000 to $30,000.
So when I see a way I can help a family in the thick of adopting, even in a small way, I jump at the chance! Having been through it twice myself I can say first hand that it’s not only a blessing financially it’s also a great encouragement to have others come alongside you and support you.
Please consider checking out these three friends who have come up with creative ways to raise money (it just so happens they are all adopting from Ethiopia!). These gifts would be perfect for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or any birthdays you have coming up.

This past week we celebrated Emma’s 1st birthday (her actual birthday is April 18th) with a Fairy Princess party. It took me awhile to decide on a theme but there are so many cute fairy items available right now and when my last issue of Family Fun highlighted a fairy birthday party it pushed me right over the edge – I couldn’t resist!
The Birthday Girl
Her party included a visit from Penney the Clown (who was supposed to come as a green fairy but somehow we got our wires crossed – oops!). She is a very cute clown who did a magic show for the kids (kept their attention for a good 30 minutes!) and made some very cool balloon creations.
We had lots of cute little fairy’s floating around…
Surrounded by presents – we have one spoiled (well loved!) princess…
Time for cake…

Waking up to their Easter baskets…

Every year my parents host a large gathering of family and friends that includes an Easter egg hunt for the little ones, a scavenger hunt for the older kids and lots of food and fellowship for the rest of us. But when it rains there isn’t enough room inside for everyone so the group is reduced to family only (which is still larger then most people’s entire party!). Despite the gloomy, cold weather we still thoroughly enjoyed our time together!
Can you tell both kids just woke up from their nap!
They still enjoyed an Easter egg hunt around the living room…

Lately Spencer has latched on to the book “If You Give a Moose a Muffin.” In case you haven’t read it – it’s the silly story about a little boy who gives a moose a muffin and some homemade blackberry jam to go with it. The moose like it so much he eats all the muffins and asks the little boy to make more. When they leave for the store to buy more muffin mix the moose will realize it’s chilly outside and ask to borrow a sweater, he will discover a loose button on the sweater and will ask for a needle and thread. The story continues in this fashion of one thing reminding the moose of another until it comes right back to asking for another muffin. Spencer gets a kick out of it every time!
So we decided to make some muffins, bring out the blackberry jam and see if the moose would come to visit us.
After enjoying a muffin himself and still no sign of the moose, Spencer decided that “he is sleeping.” We will try again another day

Today Aaron and I celebrate our 9th anniversary. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been married for close to a decade. I know it’s cliché but the time really has flown by. I couldn’t have been blessed with a more wonderful husband – he is truly my best friend. He never ceases to surprise me and keep life exciting!
We have managed to get away for every anniversary and this one is no exception – Aaron surprised me with tickets to a Michael Buble concert! I love you Sweetheart!

We recently braved our first road trip with two little ones. We journeyed about 6 hours north to the beautiful state of Oregon.
For the first night we stopped in Prospect where my Aunt Liz and Uncle Bret live. I have many fond memories of vacationing there with my family when I was young so it was fun to be back. My Aunt prepared us a lovely brunch and then they took us to see some of the beautiful sights in the area.
Natural Bridge

A Local Fish Hatchery
Then it was back in the car for 4 more hours heading further north to Corvallis to visit our good friends the Brownell’s. The kids did great and we arrived just in time for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and felt quiet spoiled in their lovely home! Here are a few highlights of our time together…
Captain Spencer at the Whale Watching center. None of us ever spotted a whale but we still had fun looking!

The Hatfield Marine Science Center with hands-on tide pools and a real octopus.

The amazingly beautiful Oregon coast
While we were there Carrie and Jonathan (owners of www.bluecastlephotography.com) generously took new photo’s of our family. We think their work is pretty amazing!
